Young official from Revelstoke chosen to go to NHL game

Video: Young officials from B.C. got advice from NHL officials

Luke Traverse of Revelstoke, was both excited and nervous when his name was drawn as one of a handful of young officials across B.C. to watch the Vancouver Canucks battle the Ottawa Senators on Jan. 2 at the Rogers Arena.

The young officials got to join the seasoned pros on the red line before returning to their seats to enjoy the game. While Traverse was on the ice with the NHL officials, they chatted about other sports such as football and gave some advice, telling the young officials to stay calm.

However, when it came to talking about the game, Traverse said that they weren’t allowed to discuss it. When it comes to Traverse and those who are interested in becoming an official, he said “stay calm and cool and always have fun.”

The Canucks beat the Senators 6-3.

Traverse is a member of the Revelstoke Minor Hockey Association and will be playing in this weekend’s U15 tournament.
