Summerland groups team up for charity

The Canadian Cancer Society was the big winner during a charity event.

The Canadian Cancer Society was the big winner as three Summerland groups teamed up for a charity event.

The Jets peewee rep hockey team played against a squad of Summerland hockey celebrities and coaches, while Sabrina Fortunato and Lauren Bitte were asked to showcase their skills at the Summerland Arena earlier this month. Fortunato is now a level one coach, earned a gold skating certificate and has won several medals during the season. Bitte too earned several gold medals, and passed multiple skating tests throughout the 2016 season. Bitte is considering skating competitively this year.

The three groups performed to raise funds in honour of friends and family affected by cancer. Among the celebrities joining the Jets were Chris Ward, Hugh Mitchell, Glen Herman, Dan Selles, Janice March, Ace Stewart, Bill Boerboom, Scott Weatherhead, Myron Dueck, Wade Parker, Gus Cave, Andrew Rolston, Lou Lemire, Steve Seminoff, Carter Rigby, Johnny Depourcq and Terry Rolston.

Along with raising money, the game showcased the local hockey players and figure skaters. Local businesses donated items for a raffle draw held.
