Pink hockey jerseys will be the rage in Sicamous over the next two weeks as the Sicamous Eagles hit the ice to help a localperson in their fight against cancer.
“October is cancer awareness month,” said Eagles general manager Wayne March, “and the team is happy to be a part of thatwith our ‘Handsome in Pink’ cancer fundraiser.”
Over a two-week period, staff at a number of local businesses will be wearing the pink jerseys in support of the Eagles’ cause.
“Kudos to the businesses for doing this,” said March. “It really helps in getting the word out.”
The Eagles showed off the jerseys at Friday’s home game versus 100 Mile House, and will be in them again when on Friday,Oct. 21 when they take on the Chase Heat.
Meanwhile, a silent auction is underway for the jerseys, with all proceeds going directly to a local person battling cancer whodid not want to be publicly identified. That fund will be managed by the Eagle Valley Community Resource Centre on behalf ofthe individual. Those wishing to bid on a jersey may do so at the home games, or submit their bid by email firstname.lastname@example.org. Bids close on Oct. 21.
