This past weekend the U14 Shuswap FC girls select team claimed the silver medal in the Okanagan Icebreaker Tournament in Lake Country.

On Friday the girls battled against McKenzie United, from Calgary, coming out ahead with a 1-0 victory with a goal from striker Esita Qiodravu.

Defensively the team was supported with strong performances from Avery Hanson, Janae Bocking, Gillian Simpson and Laura Hall.  Shuswap’s speed and strength made the defensive line difficult for the opposition to break through as well as providing excellent support to goalkeeper Julia Hart, who was key in three shutouts over the weekend.

En route to the final, Shuswap also defeated Nelson 4-0, with goals coming off the boots of Qiodravu along with forward Braidy Parkes and midfielder Maggie Rodwell.

In the following match, Shuswap easily saw off West Kelowna, 5-0.

Heidi-Leigh Boileau and Brooklyn Davidson provided a strong defensive line, showing their confidence in controlling and clearing the ball from the defensive zone.

Shuswap came up against tough opposition from Edmonton in the final.

Unfortunately, Shuswap could not overturn a one-goal deficit in the first half.
