Northwest zone brings back 64 medals from 55+ BC Games

Over 4,200 senior athletes competed in Kelowna

Athletes from across the Northwest competed in the 2019 55+ BC Games in Kelowna, B.C. from Sept. 9 to 14, bringing home a total of 64 medals.

Zone 10, which had 124 athletes from Haida Gwaii, Nass Valley, Prince Rupert, Kitimat, and Terrace that participated in 20 of the 32 events in the games.

The senior athletes claimed 12 gold, 20 silver and 32 bronze medals from 13 of those 20 events they took part in.

Organizers from Zone 10 could not provide a breakdown of athletes and wins from each town.

The 2019 55+ BC Games saw over 4,200 athletes from 12 regional teams across the province, making it the biggest game in their 40-year history and also the largest sporting event to ever be held in Kelowna.

Although this year’s event has come to an end, athletes will be preparing for the 2020 games which will be held in Richmond, B.C. from Sept 15 to 19.
