The Princess Margaret Mustangs senior boys basketball team kicked off 2015 with a 73-67 win over the Oliver Hornets.

Helping lead the Mustangs to victory was a hot 24-10 start, including 11 points by Gawk Klar in the first quarter. Klar finished with 20 points, including hitting four three-pointers.

“We were up by as many as 17, but South Okanagan put up a strong fight at the end  with some strong shooting and pressure defence in the last few minutes,” said Mustangs coach Brian Hurst. “Prabh Chahal did a great job dealing with the full court pressure.”

Chahal added 10 points and five assists.  Hurst also praised Jacob Winstone who was great all over the court rebounding, grabbing loose balls and scored 10 points.

For the Hornets, Austin Basso finished with 19 points and Gurshan Dhaliwal finished with 17.

The Mustangs travel to Kelowna Thursday to compete in Immaculata’s tournament.
