Laker takes victory at Princeton Golf

Jackson Coates scores victory at Princeton Golf Club in South Okanagan Valley league play

Pen High’s Jackson Coates shot six-over par 78 to finish as the top male in AA/AAA South Okanagan Valley Golf play at Princeton Golf Club on May 3.

Right behind Coates were teammates Jordan Simpson with 80 and Matt Haukass and Cam Gunning scoring 81 to the school team with 321 points. In A side, Princeton led with a score of 336. Tristen Vandermeulen shot eight-over par 80. Mike White and Chase Rempel shot 81, while Austin O’Neill shot 94. White also had the long drive, while Aiden Hutcheson and Anika Holowaty were closest to the pin.

The top-five who will represent the Lakers at the South Valley championship will be Simpson, averaging 76.2 shots, Davie 78.6, Coates 79.2, Riddle 79.6 and Gunning, 81.4. The South Valley championship is at Fairview Mountain Golf Course on May 11.

In Osoyoos on April 27, there was a three-way tie for first. White, Simpson and Vandermeulen all shot one-over par 73. Four shots behind the trio was Declan Riddle, followed by Cole Rezka at 78, Cam Davie at 80 and Gunning shooting 81.
