With a full day of games to enjoy, Lake Cowichan Minor Hockey’s 2017 Jamboree takes to the ice at the Cowichan Lake Sports Arena Saturday, Jan. 21.
This edition will be the 45th time players of all ages have shown off their skills to parents and friends at the popular annual event, which is part of Minor Hockey Week throughout B.C.
That means everyone gets the chance to enjoy watching the initiation and novice kids, well padded in what seem sometimes like enormous uniforms and gear, demonstrating that they are learning about skating, puck control, passing, and, of course, scoring goals.
But it’s also a special event for older players, some of whom will be playing in their last Jamboree, before moving on, as many have over the years, to help with team management and coaching.
There will be lots of other things to enjoy for fans, too, with a grand opening featuring the Lady of the Lake royalty, 50/50 draws, raffles, and a skills competition to enjoy.
Teams from other associations come to Lake Cowichan throughout the course of the day to play at various levels, ensuring there’s plenty of ongoing action, and the chance to meet and talk with out-of-town friends, who may have been coming to the Jamboree for years.
