IN BRIEF… Five Chimo Gymnasts qualified

Five Chimo Gymnasts qualified for an Island team that will compete at provincials, following strong performances at the Arrowsmith Invitational in Port Alberni.

Malaiah Ceria, Kenzie Pritoula, and Thea Parker qualified in the top three spots for a six-member Island JO 5 team. Jessie de Balinard and Taylor Paquette-Parker earned spots on the Island JO6 team.

Emma Wolfe and Jairus Ball will also compete at the April 7-9 championships in Port Coquitlam as JO7 and MAG level 4 respectively.

These seven athletes have worked hard to achieve this level of success and will proudly represent Chimo and the Island Zone 6 teams.

•The Comox Valley Curling Club Ladies Bonspiel had 28 teams in four events. First place in A Event was Colleen Robson, Sarah Hassell, Kathy Branch and Lesley Fettes. B Event winners were Lonnie Schopp, Cynthia Lu, Dana Dawson and Yvette Green of Campbell River. The C Event was won by Val Schultz, Melanie Rait, LeeAnne Alberti and Mare Michell. D Event winners were Gloria Sandberg, Cheryl Cashman, Moira Rockwell and Cheryl Sellers.

•Looking for a new sport for you or your kids? If so, you may want to consider ringette. Drop by the Sports Centre Tuesday, March 28 and give the sport a try. The free session runs from 3:30-5 p.m. at Arena 1. Please bring a helmet. Free skate rental. Ages five up.
