The female hockey star has been selected to play for Team B.C.'s U-18 entry next February.

Chilliwack’s Katherine Klassen is on the 20 person Team B.C. U-18 hockey roster that will compete at the 2019 Canada Winter Games in Red Deer, Alberta.

B.C. Hockey revealed the roster Dec. 23.

Klassen is one of 11 forwards and will be counted on to lead the Team B.C. offence. The talented teenager plays for the Pacific Steelers of the Junior Women’s Hockey League where she’s sniped 11 goals in 15 games this season.

“We are very proud of this group of talented young hockey players and look forward to watching them represent B.C. on the national stage,” said B.C. Hockey Chief Executive Officer, Barry Petrachenko. “The coaching staff and evaluators have done an exceptional job in selecting the team and preparing Team B.C. to meet the challenges of a multi-sport event like the Canada Winter Games.”

The squad was finalized following a three day camp held Dec. 20-23 in Penticton.

Team B.C. opens the 2019 Canada Winter Games Feb. 24 against Alberta and will also face Ontario and Nova Scotia in preliminary round play.

Games will be played at the downtown and Kinex Arenas along with the Centrium in Red Deer.

British Columbia best finish ever at the Canada Winter Games was a silver medal in 1991.

Team B.C. finished sixth at the 2015 Canada Winter Games in Prince George.
