A late collapse failed to help the Abbotsford Pilots gain any ground against the first-place Aldergrove Kodiaks on Friday.

The Pilots allowed three unanswered goals, stretching from late in the second period until the middle part of the third, to fall 4-3 to the Kodiaks.

Alexander Methorst opened the scoring at 2:31 of the first period, but the Kodiaks tied the game just two minutes later.

The Pilots again took the lead at 1:34 of the second period when Mateo Toledo scored, but the Kodiaks took the game over with goals at 14:49 and 18:48 of the second period.

Aldergrove made it a 4-2 game at 12:50 of the third, in what eventually became the game winner, with Issiah Piers scoring a goal at 16:33 to make it a 4-3 final.

Pilots goalie Jacob Crawford made 41 saves in the loss, while Toledo was the lone Abbotsford player to record a multi-point game. The Pilots went zero for four on the power play while allowing one goal shorthanded.

Abbotsford got back on the winning track in North Vancouver on Saturday, picking up a 3-2 overtime win against the Wolf Pack.

Corbin Genge scored at 11:06 to make it 1-0 Pilots in the first, but North Vancouver tied the game back up at 15:48. The Wolf Pack connected on a power play goal at 18:25 to lead 2-1 after two, but the Pilots sent the game to overtime when Kolby Steen scored at 11:32 of the third.

Steen then scored the game winner 49 seconds into overtime. Crawford made 17 saves to earn his 12th win on the season.

The Pilots’ record now stands at 18 wins, nine losses and two overtime losses, and they remain in second place in the Harold Brittain conference.

The club returns to action on Friday, when they host the Surrey Knights. Faceoff is set for 7:30 p.m. at MSA Arena.
