You can make a difference cutting Scotch broom

It was encouraging to read your opinion piece (May 20) about the "…broom scourge." Hopefully several people were motivated to pick up loppers to tackle the plants growing in their neighbourhoods.

A small group under the BroomBusters banner did just that last Saturday! Their target was a slope thick with broom by the Maple Bay Fire Hall.

As you can see from the set of photos below, taken before, during and after the cut, all of that yellow mass now lies at the foot of the slope. It will be chipped by North Cowichan.

If just a few hands can do this in a span of three hours, imagine what many can achieve if every family in the Valley decides to eliminate, or at the very least control, the broom that blooms on their property.
