Safety comes first in Newton

New pedestrian crossing lights are helping the community.

The people residing around and passing through 72A Avenue and 124 Street no longer need to wait for any vehicle to stop.

At the push of a button on a pedestrian-controlled crosswalk, drivers are alerted when they see the flashing yellow light.

This is after many years of the intersection being among the worst for accidents which involved vehicles and people. Pedestrians and vehicles can now be more aware of each other, circumventing an accident.

This area is extremely busy, especially during school hours.

We need to be mindful of each other, no matter if we are commuters taking transit, people going to the Newton Athletic Park or attendees at a nearby mosque.

The City of Surrey and council have done a commendable job making the street safer with a flashing-light crosswalk.
