Letter: Popular movie offers insight into assisted death

Editor: In her letter Julie Butt proposes to colour-code health care providers according to their stance on assisted death (the Times, May 13).

I wonder if she saw the movie Million Dollar Baby? In it, Hillary Swank plays a promising young female boxer who becomes paralyzed from the neck down after being viciously assaulted.

She expressed her desire to end  meaningless life to her coach, played by Clint Eastwood.

The hospital was strongly against her will, so she bit her tongue one night and almost died but the hospital staff stopped the bleeding to save senseless life.

That was enough for the coach to sneak into the hospital, turn off the respirator and administer the lethal injection.

Each case of assisted death is different.
