A concept, championed by a local resident, for a legally placed, new, dragon boat storage building and a boat washing station, was created for the Skaha Lake marina area. This concept is boater approved, costed-out and under budget. This concept, with extensive information from federal and provincial research, on finding funding, on rules dealing with lakes, wastewater and invasive species, was offered for information and display in January at ExpOCP.
It was not accepted. ExpOCP was advertised as a place to share concrete suggestions. City staff offered something in February then cancelled.
The concept represents infrastructure and creating a new look and use for an area of the city.
It encompasses future economic, environmental and budget changes and issues. It involves one of the largest, most valuable pieces of real estate in the city.
This plan still has not been shown to the general public.
The system used now in dealing with two failing marinas is not working. We are facing environmental issues that need to be physically dealt with to protect our lakes and natural resources. This concept offers ideas to address these problems.
Delays in public consultation, delays in involving the PIB, delays in both environmental and archaeological assessments, delays in making docks safe, delays, delays, delays. We are offered instead empty political phrases about public safety, enhancing livability, wellness and quality of life in this town. Empty phrases seem to be the best city hall can do.
