CPL. CHRIS SWAIN: A new column opens dialogue with RCMP

Sidney North Saanich RCMP officer writes a new column for readers of the Peninsula News Review

For more than 20 years, I’ve strapped on my RCMP uniform to serve communities in Northern Saskatchewan and more recently, for the Sidney North Saanich detachment in my home province. Many of you will already know me, but for those who don’t, I am Cpl. Chris Swain, a supervisor and the media liaison officer for the local RCMP.

In an effort to connect with the community in new ways, I’ll be writing a column twice a month on the issues that affect the residents of Sidney and North Saanich, and the  Peninsula. I want to keep this column topical and related to current events or occurrences and concerns from the public. Above all, I hope this column will be informative to you and will serve as a communication tool.

My hope is more communication will bring better understanding of your RCMP officers and will put a face to the Mounties who serve you.

A vital aspect to this column is the input and feedback that you, our community, can provide. I would like to hear from you what you’d like to know about public safety, crime, policing, or any other related topic.

Our detachment speaks every year with local governments, First Nations communities and other clients in the region to determine their priorities when it comes to policing, then form an annual plan to address those concerns and priorities. We set our policing goals based on that plan and adjust our goals quarterly if necessary.

The Sidney North Saanich detachment is a great place to work as a police officer and we have a great team of people here who are doing important work. I hope to introduce them to you and tell you more about what we do.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns, or to suggest a topic for a future column, by emailing me at sidneyrcmp@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.
