Wing Quon Wong passed away Saturday, March 18, 2023. Wing Quon in his 90th year was a devoted husband to the late Angela Wong (1978); the loving father of Marina (Steve), Anita (Carl), Danny (Heather), Richard (Carol), and Philip (Nancy). A proud grandfather of Angela, Michael, Anna, Sophie, Zachary, Amelia, Madeline, and Lucas.
Wing Quon was born in Tianxin Village in Guangzhou, China, and took the bold step to uproot his life and moved to Vancouver, Canada as a young man with the dream of a better life. Despite the challenges of moving to a new country, Wing Quon worked hard to establish himself and support his family.
In the 1960s, he helped pave the way for future Chinese restaurants in Richmond along with his business partners by opening up Bamboo Grove and later Red Diamond. Then in the mid-1970s, he became the proprietor of Parkland Restaurant in White Rock, after a brief stint with BC Ferries. He opened Plaza Cafe in White Rock in the mid-1980s to 1990s and eventually retired.
Upon retirement, Wing Quon was active and well into his eighties and despite health obstacles, he insisted on making an annual journey back to his birthplace where he found great joy and meaning.
