William Bert

October 16, 1919 ~

January 31, 2005

Suddenly passed away. He leaves his loving wife Claire of 54 years; two daughters; Sharman and Gail; two grandchildren, Jamie and Aaron; as well as his brother Jack and his family and cousin Percy and family.

Bill was born in Watrous, Saskatchewan. He joined the R.C.A.F. in 1941, then transferred to the R.A.F. and flew with 257 Burma Squadron until taken Prisoner of War.

After being released from the Air Force, he returned to Canada and married Clair Alexandre. They settled in Campbell River where Bill worked for Elk Falls Mill until 1981.

Bill and Claire spent their retirement years in Victoria and enjoyed golfing, curling and traveling. In 2003, he traveled to France and England with his family. He toured the Landing Beaches in Normandy and attended the opening ceremonies of the Juno Beach Centre in Courseulles-sur-Mer.

He had a wonderful visit with a fellow Typhoon Pilot in England where they fought WW2 all over again.

Bill will be remembered by family and friends for his unique sense of humour which carried him through life.

No service by request. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart Fund.

“Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of earth

Put out my hand and touched the Face of God.”
