In Loving Memory ~
With heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of Louis (Lou) Rozdeba on September 7, 2023. After a courageous five-year battle with dementia, Lou departed from this world, leaving a legacy of warmth, kindness, and cherished memories.
Lou was born in Wynyard, Saskatchewan, where he grew up on a farm with his three older brothers Emil, Albert, and Martin and parents Joe and Veronica, all predeceased.
At the age of seventeen, he travelled with his predeceased Uncle Kaz Yasinski to Vancouver Island to seek a better life. Here, he married his beloved wife, Emily Ella (Emella), for over 65 years and established a family and a career. From his humble beginnings, he became a remarkable man, beloved by all who knew him.
He started as a labourer in the Youbou sawmill, and by retirement, he had built his own fuel company—Rozdeba Fuels. Lou enjoyed life's simple pleasures, especially when basking in the sun's warmth. He was a true sun worshipper, travelling annually to the southern United States, Mexico, and the Caribbean Islands, always eager to make new friends.
Lou's unwavering principles, strong work ethic, and dedication to keeping his word were the cornerstones of his character. He believed in the power of promises and did everything he could to honor them.
One of his many talents was his skill on the BBQ grill, where he delighted family and friends with his baron of beef. Additionally, he was renowned for his Monte Cristo coffee, which became a signature of his hospitality.
Lou is survived by his loving wife, Emily Ella, and son, Derrick and wife Brenda, and their children Paige (Justin), Grace (Ryan), Clive (Ayla), and daughter Cindy and husband Andy Nash and their children Daryl (Heather), Lindsay (Byron) and Kyle (Tia) and grandchildren Aubrey, Carter, Holden, Jorja, Taylor, Brynn and many nieces and nephews.
Lou's memory will forever be etched in our hearts. His enduring laughter, kindness, and the warmth of his smile will continue to guide and inspire us.
We extend our deepest gratitude to the compassionate staff at Sidney Care Home, who cared for Lou with love and dedication during his final year.
