Waldo (Wally) Burnell Crosby

August 9, 2022
In loving memory ~
Wally Crosby, beloved husband of Isobel, passed away peacefully on August 9th, 2022 in Vernon Jubilee Hospital at the age of 93.
Wally was born in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, the youngest of five children born to Waldo and Janie Crosby. He spent his childhood years in Nova Scotia and after graduation attended Dalhousie University where he attained his Bachelor of Commerce degree.
In 1950 Wally was recruited by the Hudson Bay Company and moved to Vernon, BC for employment as a “trainee”. It was here that he met Isobel (nee Prentice), and in 1952 they married, the beginning of a long and happy 70 years together. Wally and Izzy were blessed with two sons, Bruce and David, who greatly enriched their lives. Wally enjoyed many family trips, as well as, skiing with the boys and fishing expeditions. Gardening was also one of his favourite pastimes. Over the course of Wally’s career with “The Bay”, the family completed eleven transfer moves that took them from Grand Prairie, Alberta to Ocean Falls on the north coast of British Columbia, with many stops in between and ending again in Vernon where, as manager, Wally opened the “The Bay” in its current Vernon location.
During his years in Vernon, Wally was very active in the community as a 25 year member, including a term as president, of the Vernon Rotary Club. He was honoured to receive the “Paul Harris Fellowship” award from Rotary International in recognition of his work in fostering better understanding between peoples of the world. In addition, Wally volunteered on the local Boy Scout Council, and as an active member of the Okeefe Ranch Board, the Noric Board, and the Coldstream Advisory Planning Board.
Wally retired in 1985 and together he and Izzy enjoyed a long and happy retirement that took them on many extended holidays to the Middle East, New Zealand, and Europe, including a number of Cruise Vacations.
Wally is survived by his loving wife, Izzy, his sister Norma Dean of Sackville, NB, brother-in-law Gord Prentice (Marjie) of Vernon, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by their sons Bruce and David, his parents, brothers Garnet and John, and sister Hildred.
Wally had a great sense of humor and enjoyed gathering with friends and neighbours. He was a kind and generous man, giving freely of his time to others, and supporting many charitable organizations. He will be missed by all who knew him.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Wally’s name to the North Okanagan Hospice Society, or the charity of your choice. The family wishes to extend their thanks to the doctors and nurses of VJH and Wally’s palliative care team from Interior Health for the excellent care he received.
In keeping with Wally’s wishes no funeral service will be held.
