November 3, 1922 – March 26, 2022
Vera Evelyn Wylie(nee Cassan), November 3, 1922 – March 26, 2022, passed away peacefully at Nanaimo Seniors Village in Long Term Care. She was predeceased by her husband John in 2013, brother Lloyd Cassan (Elsie), sisters Gladys MacMillan(George) and Hazel Onslow(Jack), as well as niece Marlene and nephew Bruce.
Vera will be sadly missed by her children, Jane Tarwitz (Karl) of Nanaimo, son Kevin Wylie(Joan Carruthers) of Victoria and grandchildren, Mikaela & Michael Tarwitz, Christopher, Jaimie and Lauren Wylie, niece Marjorie Nestibo, nephews Brian Onslow & Keith Cassan and their families as well as other relatives.
After high school, Vera moved to Winnipeg to continue her education as a secretary and office manager. It was there that she met and would eventually marry John in 1950. After stops in Swan River, Manitoba, Calgary, Kelowna and Peachland, Vera and John put down their final roots in Nanaimo in 1993.
Outside of work and her family, Vera dedicated countless hours volunteering in her communities. She served with the Rebekah Lodge for over 50 years, becoming the B.C. President in 1990-1991. The Heart and Stroke Association was another one of her passions, serving in Nanaimo for several years. She could also be found walking almost every morning at Rutherford Mall as a member of the Walking Club.
When at home, and in the kitchen, Vera was an amazing cook. Her family will especially miss her cinnamon buns, Flapper Pie, canned peaches and Eggs Benedict. Playing games and especially beating John at crib were a favorite of hers as was completing giant cross-word puzzle books. Vera had very few vices, or at least that’s what she told us with the possible exception of Purdy’s Chocolates and Liquorice Allsorts. She had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh at a good joke!
The Family would like to express their thanks for the care Vera received while at Nanaimo Seniors Village.
There will no service by request.
