Tony Michael Fischer

August 19, 2022

February 7, 1935 - August 19, 2022
In loving memory ~
Our family would like to acknowledge the recent passing of our beloved father and grandfather, Anthony Michael Fischer. After a short stay in Cowichan District Hospital in Duncan, Tony passed away on Friday, August 19th, at the age of 87. Tony was born in Kerrobert, Saskatchewan, Feb 7, 1935, and is predeceased by his wife Audrey in 2014, his parents Adam and Rosa (Schaefel) Fischer, siblings Irma (Statton), Rose (Mike Poworozniuk), and George. His eldest sister Lena still resides in Prince George, BC. Tony also leaves behind a host of relatives on the Wood side of the family.
Being born into the Depression-era rural prairies inspired his lifelong love of labour and helping others. After 3 years of service with the PPCLI, and a tour through Germany as Peacekeeper, he returned home to Unity to establish his business in radiator repair and to eventually start a family with Audrey (Wood). Small town life consisted of raising a family with two children: Lloyd (Tracy, William and Lleyton) and Erynn, (Trevor, Anysia, Samuel and Juliana Tellier), and supporting his community through various organizations, events, and fundraisers.
Tony was especially involved in the Legion Branch #90, Volunteer Fire Department, Unity Fish and Game Club, and enjoyed a variety of recreational sports such as hunting, fishing, bowling, curling, golf and darts. As a hobby, he and Audrey enjoyed gardening, with bountiful flower and vegetable gardens, and later he enjoyed working with stained glass.
Eventually, the Fischer's relocated to Ladysmith, BC, where a second stage of retirement would unfold and grandparenting would become a great joy - with five grandchildren residing between Tampa, Florida and Ladysmith,BC. This also gave Tony an opportunity to volunteer at the Bush Creek Salmon Hatchery, become involved with the local Legion and Eagles Clubs, Festival of Lights, and part time caretaker at his residence Gulfview Estates. With a hearty handshake, a kind smile and jolly attitude, Tony was happy to help a friend or neighbour through any situation, he could make anyone feel at ease and was gifted at bringing people together.
We would like to thank the medical staff at the Ladysmith Family Practice Clinic, in particular RNP Sarah Kis-toth, and the Doctors on call in the Urgent Care Clinic, the ER Staff at Cowichan District Hospital, especially Dr. Ryan Reed and Dr. Gisela Wenzel-Smith, and the numerous RN, LPN and Care aides who assisted him in his final days.
We ask that in lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in honour of Anthony, to the Canadian Blood Services or the Heart and Stroke Foundation. May His Memory be Eternal.
A Memorial Service will be held for Tony Fischer on Saturday, September 10th, at 1pm at the Eagles Hall; with tea and coffee to follow.
Internment will be at Pleasant View Cemetery in Unity, Saskatchewan this Autumn.
