August 14, 1960 - September 23, 2022
Passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family and friends after a long and plucky battle with cancer, heart disease and MS.
Tina was born to Guenther and Annemie Drewes in Kitimat, BC. She grew up in Kitimat, a small, blue-collar town full of new Canadians surrounded by her family, many cousins, and the wilderness of Northwest BC. In Kitimat, most people knew one another, and strong relationships were made. Tina attended SFU for a BA in English and a teaching certificate. Many lifelong friendships were started at SFU. Later, she completed a master's degree in education at UBC. Teaching was her calling and she worked for 20 years in Kitimat, mainly with grades 6 and 7 - "the difficult years", she used to joke. She was an avid reader (to put it mildly), loved to garden, curl, golf, host a party and was always a faithful friend. Tina moved to Mission in 2003, married Stu and appreciated the mild winters and many new friends in the Fraser Valley.
She is survived by husband Stu, stepchildren Kathleen and Neil, brother Mitch (Marg), sisters Ellie, and Susie (Ed), nephew Mathew, nieces Christina, Jen, Melissa, Emily, Rayna, and Laurel.
Reception to take place at the Mission Granite Curling Club Lounge (Mission Leisure Centre) October 15, 12:00pm. The event will be casual by Tina's request. In lieu of flowers please donate to the Union Gospel Mission or charity of your choice.
