July 17, 1944 - June 1, 2023
In loving memory ~
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Teresa Acosta on June 1, 2023. She left us peacefully with her family by her side. Teresa is predeceased by her husband Hugo and survived by her loving son Carlos (Malena), her daughter Sandra, her grandsons Lucas and Marcus as well as many extended family members. We will miss her more than words can describe.
Teresa was born July 17th, 1944 and began her journey in life in the bustling city of Bogota Colombia. At the age of 20, she married Hugo, and together they embarked on a lifelong journey that lasted 51 years until Hugo's passing in 2018. In 1970, Teresa and her young family decided to immigrate to Canada, seeking new opportunities and a better life. This marked a significant transition in her life, as she adapted to a new country, culture, and way of life. Despite the challenges that came with immigration, Teresa's resilient spirit and determination helped her create a stable and prosperous life for her family.
Teresa Acosta's life is a testament to the power of a mother's love and the vital role she plays in shaping the lives of her children and family. Her unwavering devotion, selflessness, and nurturing nature created a haven of love and security for those around her. Her legacy as the heart of her family will forever be cherished, and her love will continue to guide and inspire generations to come.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of the Birch Unit at Dufferin Place as well as Dr. Kathryn King and Dr. K. McIllwaine, for their loving care of Teresa. A memorial mass will be held on June 28th, 2023 at 1 p.m. at St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church, 301 Machleary St. Nanaimo, B.C. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Nanaimo SPCA.
