In Loving Memory ~
On May 31, 2023, we sent our dad to be with the angels: Simon Louis Gaetz, Born March 9, 1938, in Lake Lenore, Sask. He passed away peacefully, with his daughter by his side, after years of dealing with the struggles of MS.
Simon grew up on the family Farm and moved to Port Alberni in the late 1950s to work at the Somass sawmill, where he worked for 40 years. Simon and Yvette moved to Campbell River in 2019 to be closer to family and spend their last years at Evergreen Senior Care Home.
Simon had a great sense of humour and a quick wit. He always had a smart comment for everyone that brought a huge smile to his and their faces. He loved spending time with family and friends, gardening, fishing, camping, and summer travels to Alberta and Saskatchewan to see family. He loved playing crib with anyone who would play, and he loved beating his son-in-law; it always put a great smile on his face. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and a Beaver Creek volunteer firefighter for many years.
Simon is survived by his wife, Yvette; they would have celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary this year. Children: Elaine (Gordon), Marcel (Salena), Alan, and Wayne Grandchildren: Matthew (Sabrina), Kevin (Sandie), Andrew (Tamera), Tiah (Brian), Britney (Justin), and Alex (Tea). Great-grandchildren River, Liam, Willow, Hunter, and Quinn. Brothers: Joe (Christine), John, and Francis (Barbara). In-laws: Noella Francoeur, Muriel Francoeur (Rene), Real Lafond (Darlene), Laurette Lafond, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by his parents, Frank and Helen, brother Ralph, sister Anna, and many brothers and sisters-in-law.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the fabulous Evergreen family for their loving care of Simon during his last years. We so appreciate you all! Thank you to Dr. Walker for his care and kindness.
A Funeral Service will be held in Campbell River on September 9, 2023, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 34 South Alder Street.
