In Loving Memory ~
Sharon has gone. “Death be not proud”. The light of the Henderson family passed away peacefully on December 29, 2022, in Castlegar, B.C.
To say that she was exceptional is an understatement.
Born in the gold mining town of Matachewan, Northern Ontario on September 16, 1943. School years were spent in Matachewan, Haileybury, and especially Elliot Lake. A proud graduate of Queen’s University (B.A., geography), 2 years of teaching high school in Guelph, Ontario, then overseas to Sarawak, Malaysia with CUSO, 1966 – 1968.
Sharon married Neil on December 10, 1966, in Bau, Sarawak. They were married for 56 years: one year at Tahsis, 2 years at U.B.C., 50 years in the Comox Valley, and 1.5 years in Castlegar.
3 children mourn her loss: Ian (with Georgie in Prince George), Douglas at Selkirk College in Castlegar, and Natasha (with Jeffrey in Dawson City, Yukon). Plus the 3 grandchildren: Neil, C.J., and Arianna, all in Prince George.
Sharon was a supermom to her kids and a wonderful friend and an excellent Junior High English teacher at Courtenay Jr.
Cancer was the shadow of Sharon’s last eight years. She fought hard, resisting walker and wheelchair. She died peacefully at home.
