Scott Gregory Merritt

Thank You All So Much

On August 25, 2002 our lives were changed forever, we lost our precious son and brother Scott Gregory Merritt.

We came to you with broken hearts, shattered souls and minds so full of torment, anger, denial, hurt and the most unspeakable sadness, the pain was unbearable.

You opened your arms and hearts, offered your shoulder to cry on, your hand to hold and your ears to listen — we couldn’t have asked for anything more. Your words of comfort, deep and caring sympathy and heartfelt condolences were very much appreciated and will be remembered always.

We owe so many thanks it is hard to know where to begin, if we forget someone please accept our deepest apologies.

Mom & Dad (Gramma & Grampa) you were always there for Scott, and this day was no different. You did “everything right”, you couldn’t have done anything else, always remember that we love you. Brandi, you were there when we needed you, thank you so much. To the Terrace Paramedic Team, the emergency room trauma team, all of the doctors and nurses @ Mills Memorial, the air ambulance team and finally all of the doctors and nurses @ Royal Columbian Hospital — your care was exemplary, very kind, compassionate and understanding — thank you all. A special thank you to Scott’s nurses, you never stopped treating him with dignity, respect and love right until the horrible end. To all of our family (too many to name) and friends that spent the long and agonizing day @ Mills Memorial with us, we can’t thank you enough for all of your support, love and never ending hugs. Shayne and Christa, we left Tia in your hands when we needed to make the trip to Vancouver, you never left her for a moment, that peaceful reassurance was wonderful, thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Another special thank you to Dianne & Ken who were there for us in Vancouver and on the painful journey home, your support and love will be remembered always.

Scott’s beautiful and memorable service was held Friday, August 30, 2002 and we know that he would have been honoured. Dennis & Marilyn words will never be enough to thank you for all you have done, Scott loved and was loved by both of you very much, he would have been very, very proud. There are so many people that helped in making Scott’s service a very special tribute to his life — Dennis, Marilyn, Fern, Dianne, Melodie, Tanya, Fernando, Jamie, Melissa, Christa, Andrew, Betty, Grant and many more, you all did a wonderful job, thank you all from the bottom of our hearts. To everyone who sent cards, flowers, food and donations to the Terrace Parks & Recreation Dept. in Scott’s memory, it was all appreciated very much, thank you all. To all the staff from MacKay’s Funeral Service, your support and compassion did not go unnoticed — thank you for all the special care you gave us at this very difficult time. Thank you also to the Terrace Kinsmen Club, your generosity did not go unnoticed. Charlie Meek, you too helped us through a very tough time, offering words of wisdom and support, thank you for everything. And finally, to everyone who attended Scott’s service and to all those who were not able to make it, we felt your love, compassion, and friendship, thank you for sharing our sadness and heartache.

Scott never had a chance to say goodbye or a chance to fight for his life; he was taken from us all so suddenly. Scott never spent a day not knowing that he was loved and adored, and hopefully, with the organ donations made on his behalf, the special people he helped will be able to live a happy and healthy life, surrounded by family and friends that love them.

A final note to all the parents and children out there today, express your love freely, give your hugs away everyday — don’t waste a single moment, life is so very precious!

Scott you will be loved missed and remembered always.

With all our love,

Greg, Wendy and Tia Merritt
