Roy Simons Powell

August 20, 1930 – December 1, 2022
In loving memory ~
We are so sad to share the news of the passing of our husband, father and grandfather, Roy Simons Powell. Roy was born in Drumheller, AB on August 20th, 1930 and died in Prince George, B.C. on December 1st, 2022 at the age of 92.
He married Jean, and they had 4 children together. They were married for 72 years.
Roy worked in coal mines, uranium mines, and potash mines in Alberta and Saskatchewan, but not so much as a miner. He ran machines and worked in the safety office and in supervisory roles as foreman. He was also an Edmonton City Police officer for a time. In 1970 he moved
the family to Vernon, B.C. where he worked as a maintenance man for School District #22, and then out at the plywood plant in Armstrong for the rest of his working career.
He was a baseball player, a hockey player, a curler, a runner, and enjoyed playing crib and pool. He was a great fan of all the sports right up until his death.
In 2018 Roy and Jean relocated to Prince George, B.C. to be closer to their children.
Roy is survived by his beloved wife Jean, his daughter Linda (John) Goetzinger, son Daniel (Debra) Powell, and daughter Patricia/Patti (Jim) Jones. He has 16 biological grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and a whole crew of bonus grands and great grands. He is also survived by
brother-in-law Bill Nimmo and his wife Lynne, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, his siblings, one grandson (Jesse Jones) and his dear son Robert/Bob Powell.
We miss you so much Dad.
