It is with deep sadness that the family of Roy Nixon announce his passing on June 7, 2022 at the age of 92.
Roy is survived by his loving wife, Joyce; his daughters: Shannon (Darald) and Kerry (Rick); his grandchildren: Tamara and Alex; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by his parents and his four siblings.
Roy was born in Radium, B.C. on April 26, 1930 to Wilbur and Emma Nixon. He grew up in Parson, B.C. and graduated from high school in Invermere. Roy tried his hand at many different jobs: mining, logging, and hospital maintenance & ambulance driver. But, he found his true calling as a mechanic.
He started his own garage "Roy's Repair" in 1973 and it became a hub for many to come to have a coffee and chat. Roy met and courted the love of his life in Golden, B.C. at the "Double or Nothing" cafe and they married on September 15, 1962. Two daughters completed his family by 1972 and there is nothing he wouldn't have done for his family.
For Roy, his "real" birthday was February 15, 1958 when he found his sobriety. He would say that this was the day he started living and he lived true to this commitment for the next 64 years.
He committed to a life of service to help others who also had discovered they too had a living problem. In his younger years, Roy enjoyed fishing, golfing, dancing, skiing, and traveling. He experimented with different hobbies: making jewelry, stain glass, and bee keeping.
He was very community oriented sitting on the boards of both the Golden Town Council and the local school division. You would find him plowing snow from all his neighbours' driveways and on his hands and knees weeding his massive garden.
Roy was a strong devoted man with a great sense of humour. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
