Born and raised in Powell River, Ron moved his young family to the Cowichan Valley in 1964 to join the start-up newsprint crew at Crofton mill. After losing his first wife Shirley to MS, Ron met and merged families with Marion in 1971. Together they led a full and active life enjoying curling, golfing, skiing, RVing, travelling, music, dancing and gatherings with family and friends.
Ron worked hard, built lots, fixed everything, helped everyone, and enjoyed a great life. He died peacefully, when he was ready, surrounded by family. He leaves behind his loving and devoted wife Marion, his son Doug (Linda), daughter Cathy, step-son Kevin Smith, several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, his remaining brother Frank, extended family, and many life-long friends. Ron was well-loved, and will be dearly missed.
Special thanks to Dr. Horgan, Ron's nephrologist who provided excellent care over the past five years. A private celebration of life will be held in the summer. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Cowichan Hospice House or the Kidney Foundation of Canada.
