October 23, 1928 - November 19, 2022
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our Papa & Opa on November 19th, 2022 in Vernon, B.C. at the age of 94 years. Rolf was born in Hannover, Germany on October 23rd, 1928 to Konrad & Ida Grages. From an early age, Papa was an independent individual. In September of 1951he left his homeland to immigrate to Canada.
He began his new adventure in Saskatchewan but was drawn west to British Columbia. In 1954 he came to Vernon and knew he had found the place he wanted to call home. That same year, Papa started Gustavus Construction with two partners. He has left many landmarks throughout the Okanagan Valley & the interior of British Columbia.
In 1957 he met our Mama and the rest was history. They married in August of 1959. Mama & Papa settled into the house our Papa built on Kidston Road in Coldstream. After a few years they welcomed Ingrid & Bernie. In1967 the family relocated to our acreage on Coldstream Creek Road. Papa retired at the age of 53 years and we all enjoyed the tranquility of our little farm in the Coldstream as well as many memorable celebrations with friends and family.
After 52 years, Papa & Mama left their little piece of paradise. They were grateful to be able to relocate and remain in Coldstream. Rolf was a man of integrity and quick wit. He will be so missed. Left behind to cherish his memory is his wife of 63 years, Leonida; his daughter, Ingrid; his son, Bernie (Val) and his granddaughters, Steffanie, Jaime & Jessica.
Cremation preceded a Celebration of Rolf's Life which will be held in the Spring of 2023.
