Roland Wayne Hilliard

We regret to announce the passing of ROLAND WAYNE HlLLIARD on Sunday, August 27th, 2006 at the age of 62 years. Roland was born in Vancouver on March 10, 1944 but moved to Vancouver Island with his parents at an early age and grew up in Qualicum Beach where he graduated from Qualicum Beach Senior Secondary School in June of 1964. After training as a welder in Nanaimo, Roland, having the “gift of the gab”, followed his natural instincts and became a welding supplies and equipment salesman. He landed a job with Vernon Machine & Equipment and relocated to Vernon with his wife, Angie, in the spring of 1969. Roland continued to reside in Vernon, for the most part, for the rest of his life. Roland enjoyed fishing, cooking, and working in his well-equipped shop. He also volunteered with the Crisis Line for some time. He is survived by his only son, Gregory, born in 1972, to whom he imparted all his many skills and talents as the quintessential “jack of all trades”. Roland is also survived by his long-time partner, Christine Charter-Smith, whom he teamed up with in 1984, as well as one brother, Mike, of Qualicum Beach, and numerous nieces and nephews. At Roland’s request, no service was held. Condolences may be sent in care of 8701 Aberdeen Road, Coldstream, BC V1B 2L5.
