Richard “Dick” James

June 30, 1948 – December 8, 2016

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our loving brother, uncle, cousin, and friend, Dick Frazer. After a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer, Dick passed away surrounded by those who loved him most. Dick will be greatly missed by friends and family, and is survived by his sister Margaret and brother David (Claudia), nieces Amanda (Jon) and Emily (Aaron), nephew Ryan (Jess), and many cousins across Canada, England and France.

Born and raised in Penticton, Dick was an engaged citizen and well-connected to his community. He always looked forward to catching up and “shooting the breeze” with whomever he passed on the street. Dick was an avid gardener, a tremendous skier, and overall sports enthusiast. He especially loved a good dip in the lake on a hot summer day. After fighting forest fires in his early twenties, Dick spent over 30 years working at the Weyerhauser Mill in O.K. Falls. He made several lifelong friends at the mill, who knew him affectionately as “Dickie”. A testament to his friendly demeanour, he stayed connected with these friends and former colleagues well into his retirement through weekly “safety meetings” and coffee groups held around town.

Loved by all who knew him, Dick was a perpetual optimist who always saw the best in everyone he met and his giant laugh could brighten the mood of any room. Dick’s glass half-full personality, sincerity, and genuine kindness are his legacy to the world. We will miss him forever.

A Memorial Service to celebrate Dick’s life will be held after the Christmas holidays in early 2017, details to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Moog & Friends Hospice Penticton ( or the Penticton Regional Hospital Patient Care Tower Project. The family would also like to extend heartfelt thanks to the palliative care team at Moog & Friends Hospice House for the wonderful care and comfort they provided for Dick.
