In loving memory ~
It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beloved Rene. She passed away suddenly on December 25th, at the age of 40.
She leaves behind her husband Kelly 16 years, her daughters Allie, Ashley (Dallas) and Kyndal, her parents (Dennis and Anne), her brothers Dean (Gisele), Brant (Sarah), Jason (Hayley), her sister Carla (Phil), and the abundance of nieces and nephews.
Rene was the type of woman who could make new friends wherever she went. She was personable, selfless, and a source of motivation and inspiration. Rene loved flying; her career started as a jump pilot for skydiving, followed by flying the Twin Otter for Kenn Borek Air in the Arctic. Then she flew the Beechcraft 1900 for Air Georgian in Calgary, before becoming captain on the Q400 for Jazz Aviation.
Besides her love for flying, she adored her friends and family and had at least one connection in every location she flew into. She loved to be outdoors, hiking, hunting, fishing or simply enjoying nature. She loved wandering through thrift shops, she was a big time foodie, she loved music, whether that was dancing, singing or playing the piano, and was content to play hours upon hours of card games. When the skies were clear, she loved to take her Mooney out for a boot and was so proud to bring friends and family out to experience her world up in the clouds.
There will be a celebration of life held at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 34 South Alder Street in Campbell River on Friday, January 6th at 1:00 p.m. with a reception to follow in the church hall. Friends and family are welcome to attend. In lieu of flowers, the family would like to set up a pilot bursary in Rene’s name with Elevate Aviation to support and encourage women to become pilots. This is a non profit organization. Rene was a long time volunteer, supporter, and mentor with Elevate Aviation and an advocate for women in aviation.
To donate please follow the link https://elevateaviation.ca/donations/ and select the “In Memory of Rene Cutforth” option to direct the money to the bursary.
