June 28, 1988 - September 17, 2023
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Peter Nicholas Bothwell, a beloved soul who in his 35 short years among us graced the lives of many people.
Peter was born in South Korea and was adopted five months later into the loving family of Carol and Max Bothwell who lived in Saskatoon. He grew up with his sister, Julie, and spent the prairie summers playing outside, and the winters sledding and skating.
The family moved to Nanaimo, after Carol passed away in 1994, to start a new adventure. Peter continued to be active participating in soccer, sailing, and gymnastics in his spare time until music captured his attention.
In high school, Peter discovered a love of music which became his passion. He was a talented and creative musician and excelled in the band and jazz programs at Woodlands and John Barsby. Peter's love of music led him to join and lead several bands over the years and he toured across Canada multiple times. In 2009, Peter's band even performed in the Vans Warped Tour.
After graduation, Peter completed the Culinary Arts Program at VIU and worked as a professional cook and sous chef at numerous restaurants in Nanaimo. He loved cooking for those he cared about and was eager to share his knowledge.
In the midst of life's vibrant tapestry, Peter battled with the relentless grip of addiction and struggled with his mental health. Tragically, he ultimately succumbed to addiction's devastating force, leaving a void that will forever remind us of the need for compassion, support, and understanding for others facing the same.
Peter was a kind and gentle soul who cared deeply for those important to him. Peter had many friends, who have come together on social media, and everyone who knew Peter, loved him.
Peter leaves his father, Max; his sister, Julie (Colin); his step-mother, Anni; step-sisters, Meagan and Carley (Morgan); many other extended family members in Canada and the United States.
He is predeceased by his Grandparents, Ruth, Marlin, Inez, and Robert; his mother, Carol; and his dog, Roxie.
The family is holding a service at the Sands Funeral Chapel in Nanaimo on October 20 at 1 pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer donations be made in Peter's name to the Giving Back Society where Peter spent some of the past year. (e-transfer: Payments@Giving-Back.ca)
