In Loving Memory ~
Paula Avery (Fetzko) passed away on August 7, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Born on February 16, 1948, in Fernie, BC, to Michael and Marjorie Fetzko.
At the age of 10, her family made the move to the beautiful Creston Valley where her father would work at Interior Breweries.
Paula's mother, Marjorie, played a pivotal role in her early years. Alongside Joan Jenove (Gideon), Marjorie saw a need in the community for young girls and helped establish a tap-dancing program. Paula flourished in this setting, developing a deep love for dance.
After completing high school, Paula attended College in Lethbridge where she earned her Secretarial Studies Certificate.
On June 10, 1967, Paula and Bruce began their lifelong journey together as they married. In 1973, after purchasing 4A's Sheet Metal, they acquired a piece of land in Alice Siding, where they raised their children, Michael (Jason) and Ann Marie. They built both a shop for their business and a loving home for their family. Paula and Bruce ran their residential heating business with the same care and dedication they extended to their community, continuing until their retirement.
Paula was also deeply involved in her community throughout the years, teaching Sunday School at the Redeemer Lutheran Church, active with the MS Society, attending the TOPS Program, as well as the Rock Club with Bruce.
She cherished the friendships she made in high school, continuing to meet with her old friends. Throughout her life, Paula remained deeply connected to her faith, attending Sunday Services, and finding strength in her beliefs.
Paula was famous for her Women's Day Magazine recipes with her family. Her favorite Cherry Coke ham and Muppet Baby soup were sometimes at the brunt of her children's laughter. She was always willing to try something new with her cooking.
In 1990, Paula was diagnosed with MS, but she faced this challenge with inspiring resilience. Her strength was a source of inspiration, and she continued to live each day with grace, never allowing her challenges to overshadow the joy she had in her life, serving as a reminder to all who knew her of the power of perseverance and a positive outlook.
Paula was predeceased by her loving husband Bruce, her parents Michael and Marjorie Fetzko, along with her infant sister Claire.
She is survived by her brother Jack Fetzko of Cranbrook, and her sister Ann Pedersen of Creston.
Paula will be dearly missed by her son Michael, her daughter AnnMarie, grandsons Brandt and Carson and the many family members and friends who loved her dearly.
