In Loving Memory ~
On Monday, February 21, 2022, Patricia Rheta Hampshire, loving mother of 5 children, passed away at age 85.
Mom was born March 17, 1936, in Gods Lake, Manitoba, on St Patrick’s day to which she owes her namesakes, Pat, Patty, and Patsy.
At the age of 18, she left home to begin nurse’s aid training in Oxford House, Manitoba, later moving to continue in practice in Winnipeg where she met and married John in 1964 and subsequently moved to Vancouver Island, where they settled in Courtenay in 1970 to raise their family.
Later in life, mom was employed with Hands with Heart to offer home support to seniors and worked as a detailer to RVs and mobile homes with Barr’s Home Centre.
Mom taught us to care for others by her own compassionate example. She was the first to bring a pot of soup to anyone sick or to a grieving family she knew of. We saw her quickly get into action, serving others in times of crisis. We saw her go and help where not many were willing to go.
She enjoyed the ocean and camping, her garden, loved pansies, sweet peas, lilacs, possessed a magical green thumb, made extraordinary bread, and maintained a quiet and simple faith in God. Over the years, she formed many long-lasting friendships through her many endearing qualities.
Her quick-witted sense of humor was enjoyed by all. We will miss her deeply.
Mom is predeceased by her parents, Ellen and (1968) Stanley (1988) Campbell and her siblings, Russel, Lawrence, Geddes, and Gladys, her husband, John Hampshire (1998), as well as her firstborn, Lois, in 2021.
She is survived by her children, their spouses, and grandchildren; (Lois) – Dallas,Tanya, Donna, Thom (Amanda,Holly), Harry (Courtenay, Katherine), Sandi (Spencer, Savannah), Darryl (Chad, Robyn), and Cheryl, Wayne (Brandon,Nicole,David.) As well as 7 great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews.
