Pat (Pon Yuen) Jung

December 23, 1934 – September 13, 2023
In loving memory ~
With heavy hearts, we announce that Pat (Pon Yuen) Jung passed away in the Cowichan District Hospital at the age of 88 on September 13, 2023, after battling with cancer.
Pat immigrated to Canada at the age of 16 and started working in the coal mine in Nanaimo while attending school. He moved on to work at the Honeymoon Bay lumber mill and settled permanently in Lake Cowichan in 1956 with his young family. After 16 years at WFP he decided to try his hand at business and took over ownership of the Lake Café, where over 25 years he and his wife Loretta were able to share their culinary skills with generations of families. After retiring, Pat volunteered at the Senior Centre and Evergreen Place as a Tai Chi instructor on a regular basis for many years. He was awarded the Nichole Stock Community Service Award in 2009. Pat was a loyal Toronto Maple Leafs fan, forever hoping that one day, they would win the Stanley Cup again. The summers would find him in his garden producing amazing produce that he loved to share.
He is survived by his wife of almost 70 years Loretta, his children: Audrey, Steven and Stanley (Akiko); and grandson Matthew, along with a brother and sister and numerous other relatives.
At Pat’s request, a private family gathering will be held at the interment in Royal Oak Burial Park. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Flowers gratefully declined. A donation may be made in Pat’s name directly to the Cowichan Lake District Seniors Assoc, 55 N, 55 Coronation St., Lake Cowichan, B.C. V0R 2G0
