It is with sadness we announce the passing of Niels Hansen Nielsen on January 12, 2022, in his 85th year. Niels died peacefully, at Nanaimo Seniors Village, where he had been receiving care for the past three years due to late-stage Alzheimer's disease.
He was born in Esbjerg, Denmark and immigrated to Canada in 1957.
Predeceased by his mother and father, Anna and Jens and his brother Egon, he is survived and mourned by his sisters Anni and Edith and their families, his wife 0f 43 years, Sylvia and together their four children Tim (Teresa), Kay, Alan (Lise), and Sandra (Rick).
Niels was blessed with grandchildren, Eric (Lydia), Christopher (Brianna), Troy, Craig (Jenna), Morgan, Alan, Michelle, Lindsay (Jon) and Scott, and four great grandchildren.
Niels lived a life well lived until his diagnosis stole him away from us all. He was an avid sailor and member of the Nanaimo Yacht Club for over 50 years. He was a master carpenter and was the proud owner of Dana Cabinets in Nanaimo for many years.
The family would like to thank the nurses, care aides and sta at Nanaimo Seniors Village for their exceptional care and kindness shown to Niels. He was a gentleman until the end. As per his wishes, there will be no service. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Alzheimer Society of BC.
