Nettie Warkentin (nee Tiessen)

June 3, 1925 – July 1, 2023
Nettie Warkentin went home to be with her Lord and Saviour at the age of 98, passing away peacefully at the Bradley Centre on July 1, 2023.
Nettie was born on June 3, 1925 to Henry and Mary Tiessen in Warman, Saskatchewan, the oldest among four brothers.
After acquiring Scarlet Fever, Nettie took Grades 9 to 11 by correspondence during the summer, while going to Tabor Bible School during the winters. After the family moved to Abbotsford, Nettie completed Grade 12 at MEI.
Beginning at the age of 24 and for the next 43 years, Nettie was a missionary in Guadeloupe with the West Indies Mission (now World Team). She had a fruitful ministry and made many lifelong friends. When she moved back to Canada, Nettie felt like she was leaving home.
In 1992, Nettie married Henry Warkentin and together they served the people of Broadway MB Church in various capacities. At 68, with Henry’s encouragement, Nettie got her driver’s license and later became Henry’s chauffeur after he lost his eye sight. Henry and Nettie enjoyed 24 years of marriage before Henry passed away in 2017.
Nettie was fluent in three languages, had a heart for people, was a woman of faith and prayer, who lived life with a positive attitude and cheerfulness.
Predeceased by Henry, her parents, 2 brothers and her step-daughter, she leaves to mourn: Her brothers Gordon and Donald (Edith) and many nieces and nephews; Henry’s children: Carl (Ruth); Doris (Oly) Eichstadt, Paul (Elaine); Kerri (Al) Toews, son-in-law Dave Schulz,12 grandchildren and 10 great-children.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Broadway MB Church in Chilliwack on Monday, July 17 at 2:00 pm.
