In loving memory ~

Morton (Morty) Mint was born and raised in Montreal. After graduation from McGill University, he moved to Toronto and entered the world of book publishing. He rose in the ranks to become President and CEO of Penguin Canada and then, briefly, President of Penguin USA.

He left the corporate world in the 90's to start his own publishing company and concurrently Mint Literary Agency. On the move to Nelson in 2005, he entered the Kootenay literary world and, professionally, made an impact that meant the most to him. His energy, drive, imagination, humour and huge enthusiasm and support for his authors and the local book scene changed lives remarkably. His contribution to the Kootenay book world has been significant.

Morty lived with dementia for the last decade of his life and did so without complaint but with increasing sadness that he could no longer read books or absorb long articles. He is survived by his wife, Marilyn, his sons Matt (Chantal) and Adam (Lindsey), his grandchildren Sage, Phoenix, Tenzin and Levi and his brother, Jerry and sister, Marilyn.

In the last days of his life, messages have poured in from so many on whose lives he had a great impact and who loved him. For this opportunity for so many to say goodbye, his family is very grateful. We are grateful as well to the palliative care team at Interior Health and the MAID team for their support and empathy.

Celebration of life will be held in the Hume Room at the Hume Hotel, in Nelson, from 2 - 5 pm on February 8th.
