In Celebration of Life ~
It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Michail Frank Mahovlic at the age of 83.
He is survived by his four children, Trish (Rick McCrate), Jim (Lori Mahovlic), Meg (John Belanger), and Paul. His grandchildren Karyn (Cole Stewart), Heather, Duncan, and Connor, and great-grandson, Jack Stewart.
He is also survived by his sisters, Mary (Russ), Ann (Pete), Dorothy, and sister-in-law, Beth Vallee.
As well as by his stepchildren (wife Joan) Mark Coffill and Shawn Coffill (Holly) and granddaughters Mariah, Sayde, Eva Mae, and Edie Bea. He also leaves behind many other family and friends.
Mike was born and raised in Port Alberni, B.C. where he resided there for most of his life and lived out his last few years in Campbell River, B.C. In his early years, Mike worked in the banking industry throughout BC, and later returned to Port Alberni where he worked as a Millwright for over 25 years.
Mike spent many years serving his community through the Sea Cadets, Kinsmen Club where he played a role in the Annual Fall Fair and Mother’s March of Dimes. He also volunteered at the churches he attended as an usher, greeter, and driving others to and from.
When Mike was not working or serving, you could find him fishing, curling, golfing, gardening, and making memories with his family.
He is preceded in death by his first wife, Jean (d. 1984), and second wife, Joan (d. 2019), sister Kay (John), brother, John (Lenore), and brother-in-law, Bob. As well as his parents, John (Ivan) and Mary (Mara).
The family wishes to thank Dr. Jordyn Vanderveen and all the staff of Yuculta Lodge for their excellent care of Mike over the years. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Three Peaks Recreational Outreach and the Children’s Health Foundation of Vancouver Island.
A Celebration of Life will be held in his honour on Saturday, October 21st at 11:00 am at the Victory Memorial Park Funeral Centre (14831 28 Avenue, Surrey) with a lunch reception immediately following.
A second Celebration of Life will take place on Friday, November 10th at 1:30 pm at the First Baptist Church (6211 Cherry Creek Road, Port Alberni) with a tea to follow.
