In loving memory ~
Mike is survived by his wife of 63 years, Norma, sons Brian, and Tom (Holly), their children Maggie and Wyatt, daughter Kathleen (Ken MacKenzie), sisters Mary Axen, Ruby Forsyth, Rosalie Hardie and many nieces and nephews.
Mike was born in Burns Lake, B.C., the youngest of eleven children. He received his early education in one-room schools throughout the province with his mother as his teacher. Further education included a B.Sc and M.A. from UBC and a Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin.
Upon graduation, Mike and Norma moved to Halifax, N.S., where he was employed by the Department of Fisheries and Oceans for the next 30 years. In 1987 Mike received a National Research Award in recognition of helping to solve a major national problem following the seafood poisoning crisis.
Retirement brought Mike and Norma back to B.C. to enable them to spend time with their brothers and sisters. The next 23 years were spent with extensive travel to many places around the world and an annual trip to Nova Scotia.
Mike was an avid reader and constant learner. He enjoyed painting, photography, gardening and genealogy. Social time was spent with friends from the Chilliwack Probus Club of which he was a past president.
