Michael Edward Giegerich

April 2, 1937 – March 11, 2021
Mike was born in Chibougamau, Quebec to mining engineer, Henry and Catherine Giegerich. He grew up in Yellowknife, NWT and graduated high school in Trail, BC. He attended UBC and graduated with an engineering degree and an MBA he also played for the UBC Thunderbirds Football team.
Mike helped his parents with their retirement property on Salt Spring Island, where he met and married Kay Devine.
Mike worked for himself as a sawmill designer and he and Kay lived in Mackenzie and Richmond, BC. They retired to Blind Bay where they worked, played golf and travelled.
Mike could usually be found out in a boat, fishing or sailing and Kay was always prepared to cook whatever he brought home. They also loved gambling and did many trips to Reno or wherever the nearest casino could be found.
They were very involved in the communities where they lived and made many wonderful friends through their volunteer activities. They were especially involved with the Lion’s Club. They were especially attached to Kaslo and were always keen organizers of the family reunions that were held periodically there. Mike and Kay were dog lovers and had a series of beautiful (and somewhat spoiled) cocker spaniels.
Mike was predeceased by his siblings, Henry (Hank, Hark) Giegerich, Catherine (Betty) Wetmore, Margaret (Peggy) Sloan. Mike and Kay’s nieces and nephews are planning a family reunion in Kaslo to celebrate their lives in the summer of 2022.
