Maureen Sorensen (nee: Crowley)

November 5, 2022
In loving memory ~
Maureen Sorensen (nee: Crowley), ‘Joan’, passed away on November 5th, 2022. Joan was born in London, England, in 1935, the 11th of 12 children. She married at age 25 and had 2 children, Ruth Alexander (Fortune) and Joseph Fortune. There are 4 grandchildren, Dana, Gregory, Zoe and Emma. She has one surviving sister, Rose Organ, who resides in the UK.
Joan was a civil servant throughout her working career in the UK and came to Canada in 1965 where she lived with her first husband, Joseph Fortune (deceased). In the mid 80’s Joan moved from Ontario to B.C. with her second husband Balent (Bill) Szabo (deceased) when he retired.
Joan took some university courses at age 65 and used her skills to write short stories, some for the local paper. Joan’s artistic skills were unknown to many – she had a beautiful singing voice and could paint anything.
Joan married Knud Sorensen in 2002 and they had some very happy years until his passing in 2012. Joan loved to travel and was able to visit many places around the world. We are very grateful for the many kind and supportive friends that Joan had.
At Joan’s request, there will be no service at this time. Please feel free to donate to a charity of your choice in her memory.
