In loving memory ~
On Wednesday, August 9th, 2023, at the age of 73, Mo passed away suddenly at the Cowichan District Hospital with her beloved husband Jim and her Mill Bay family by her side.
Maureen led a courageous, brave and compassionate life in the face of relentless health issues, all the while putting her family and friends above all. Her gifts of love and kindness to family and friends were countless.
She loved her family with deep affection, and was incredibly proud of her five grandchildren, always praising their accomplishments and keeping up with their latest adventures.
Mo spent the past 56 years with her high school sweetheart, Jim, who will miss the love of his life deeply. She graduated in 1968 from Cowichan Secondary and went on to complete a Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology at BCIT in 1970. Following her one-year internship at St Paul's Hospital she earned her Registered Technologist designation. Maureen was a very proud and accomplished Lab Technologist and worked in the private sector before beginning a 25-plus-year career at Cowichan District Hospital. In retirement, she enjoyed family, she loved spending time in her garden, camping on Quadra and Hornby Islands, and adventuring to Mexico, Costa Rica, Hawaii, and Europe. She loved crafting, and reading, particularly with her book club friends. The social side of the book club was just as, if not more important than the book itself, to Mo.
Mo will lovingly be remembered by her husband Jim; son Ryan, his wife Holly, their children Isabelle, Gabby and Brady; son Shawn, his wife Meg, their sons, Ben and Eli; and her sister Beverly Heil. Mo was predeceased by her parents, Bill and Kathleen Heil. Maureen had a large extended family.
The family extends its sincere appreciation to the medical support staff at the Coleman Clinic and the ER of CDH. A special thanks to Dr. Patricia Seymour for her compassionate care, Dr. Lipinski ER CDH, and Dr. Jane Saunders and Shauna Cameron of the VIHA geriatric outreach team.
A celebration of life will take place on Thursday, August 17th at 11:00 a.m. at the Duncan Christian Reformed Church. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Mo's memory to the Cowichan Brain Injury Society (CBIS) Road to Recovery Go Fund Me page. https://gofund.me/db333737
