It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother Mary (Martha) Houchen nee Seip of Surrey, BC on December 22, 2022 at Peace Arch Hospital. She succumbed to her cardiovascular injuries after she had an attack in early October. She fought long & hard but never fully recovering from it.
Martha was a very loving and supportive mother and is survived by her children Donna (Dave) Fleet of Lone Butte, Sandra (Don) Knapton of South Surrey and Jerry Houchen of Surrey. Her grandchildren Steven (Jenn), Nicole, Michelle (Seann), Kayley and Abbey will miss her greatly. She is also survived by her great grandchildren, whom she cherished deeply, including Hannah, Austin, Nolan and Linden.
Martha had a love for travel earlier in life and was always frequently flying to new places and cruising the oceans as much as possible. Her love travel always brought her home to her family. She was the last surviving child of 10 and always looked forward to family reunions as it was a way to reminisce and catch up with nieces and nephews. She also loved being active at the gym or golfing. She worked out at least 3 times a week until covid arrived but that didn't stop her from doing walks and taking up Nordic walking. She loved her complex that she lived in where she socialized as much as possible making many great friends, doing the hard parts of a puzzle, joining in the craft nights, playing cribbage and of course attending happy hour which kept her busy every week. Her family would like to thank all in the complex that helped her and supported her in sickness and health.
A Celebration of Life will be on April 15, 2023 at Victory Memorial Park Funeral Center at 11:00. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to organizations such as the: Canadian Cancer Society &/or Canadian National Institute for the Blind.
