It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother Mary Gevatkow. Mary was born on June 7, 1926, in Cowley, Alberta and passed away peacefully on April 1, 2023, at Talarico Place.
Mary enjoyed gardening, canning, sewing, knitting, crocheting, baking, and singing in choirs. She was a member of the USCC and was proud of her Doukhobor heritage. She loved her family deeply and enjoyed spending time with them and especially enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mary is survived by her sons Ken (Antoinette) and Lloyd (Debra) and daughters Lena (Alex) Pereverzoff and Monica Erickson. Grandchildren Tamara, Dena, David, Dana, and Brayden and 10 great-grandchildren. Mary was predeceased by her husband Peter Gevatkow, parents Alex and Mary Vishloff, brother Fred Wishlow and sister-in-law Ann Wishlow, sister Helen Kabato and brother-in-law Bill Kabatoff, brother Alec Vishloff, twin sister Ann Shkuratoff and brother-in-law George, brother Bill Vishloff, and son-in-law Stewart Erickson, nephews Don and Fred Wishlow and nieces Gwen Shkuratoff and Elaine Fominoff.
A service was held on Monday, April 10, 2023, with interment at Pass Creek Cemetery. We would like to take this time to thank all of the doctors, nurses and care aides at Poplar Ridge and Talarico Place for their care, kindness and support. Thank you to all who called and sent their condolences. Thank you to Sam Hadikin and the gravediggers and the singers for their participation in Mary’s funeral. A very big thank you to Harry Zibin for officiating. And thank you to Bill Strilae and the Castlegar Funeral Home for their kindness, care, and attention to the details. May you rest in peace now our beloved Mom and Grandmother. You are forever in our hearts. We love you. Love, your family.
