In loving memory ~
It is with great sadness we advise of the passing of Marjorie Sturgeon on the 8th of November, 2022. She was a loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and died peacefully at the Nanaimo General Hospital in the company of her three sons and daughters-in-law. Marjorie was predeceased by her father and mother, Percy and Phyllis Boorman, and is survived by her loving husband of 74 years, Ross, and her three sons, Wes (Donna), Russ (Lynn) and Keith (Vicky). She also leaves behind 7 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.
Marjorie was an exceptionally talented and popular member of every community she called home. She was born in Santa Paula, California and at age 6, moved to Victoria where she spent the majority of her formative years. From an early age, Marjorie was a prominent and long serving member of St. Aidans United Church as a leader, Elder and choir member. She was very accomplished musically, having achieved grade 10 and her letters in the Toronto Conservatory of Music (piano) as well as winning the Victoria Rose Bowl as a soloist. She was well known in Victoria as a soloist and an eager participant in several prominent local choirs as well as being a piano teacher. For years, Marjorie worked as a primary grade school and music teacher at Tolmie and Margaret Jenkins schools in Victoria and was very proud of all her school choirs.
Ross and Marjorie have been happily married since 1948 and together they provided an excellent example of how to raise a joyful and loving family. After retirement they moved to Prince George to work with Wes and Keith and again she involved herself in the Knox United church. Next, she and Ross moved to Banff and worked with Russ and once more provided her leadership as an Elder and member of St. Paul's Presbyterian Church. In 2001, she and Ross moved to Parksville, where she became involved in St. Columba Presbyterian Church as a faithful church and choir member.
Marjorie was fun to be around. She was a person who made a difference and positively affected and helped those in her orbit. She also loved travelling with Ross in their motorhome. She will be dearly missed by all her family and myriad of friends. A memorial service will be held in her honour sometime in the Spring at the St. Columba Presbyterian Church, date to be announced.
