Mario Mastroianni passed away on May 31, 2022 after a brief journey with cancer at the age of 76 in his longtime hometown of Golden, BC. He lived graciously and courageously until the very end.
Born in the town of San Mango d’Aquino in Italy Mario travelled to Canada in 1965 to live with his brothers in Field, BC, and work on the railroad. In 1972 he went back to Italy to marry the love of his life, Maria. After a short stay in Field, he and Maria moved to Golden in 1973 where they had 2 Children, Antonietta (Annette) and Antonio (Tony).
No stranger to hard work, Mario retired from the CPR after 35 years in 2004. Mario loved to Garden with his wife Maria and was very proud of the different types of vegetables he harvested from his many gardens. There was never a shortage of potatoes or tomatoes at the Mastroianni house. Gardening was not Mario’s only passion, he also loved to make many different types of sausage a cured meats which he shared with his family and close friends. When paired with Mario’s homemade wine they were truly fantastic.
Beneath Mario’s often serious exterior was a kind, compassionate, and caring man that loved his family and friends.
Mario is predeceased by his parents, Antonio and Vincenza Mastroianni and his brother Francesco (Frank) Mastroianni. He is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren, siblings, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A service was held on Wednesday, June 8th at the Sacred Heart Parish in Golden, BC.
